If you blow up on a landing its pretty much telling you that you were toast to begin with the way you were landing or where you were about to land. You are wondering why the game does this? Well, its to keep the races competitive. You wont lose precious time be wandering off the course and then having to try to find your way back. Every time you explode, youll always be set ahead of where you were at. Part of the reason is because many of the obstacles require speed to clear, so this will usually give you enough running room to clear the next obstacle.
